FAQs

Do I have to register for this service?

In order for an ECT to serve induction a headteacher / principle must register with an Appropriate Body in advance of an ECT taking up the post. Failure to do so may delay the start of induction.

Which Appropriate Body should I choose?

From September 2024, local authorities will stop operating as appropriate bodies and teaching school hubs will become the main provider of appropriate body services. Schools are encouraged to choose their local teaching school hub for appropriate body services unless they have specific reasons to go elsewhere. For schools in Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow, Teach West London is your local Teaching School Hub. Teach West London have been working in collaboration with local authority appropriate body teams to ensure a smooth transition for schools.

What is the role of the Appropriate Body?

Through quality assurance, the appropriate body assures itself that: relevant persons are aware of, and are capable of, meeting their responsibilities for monitoring support and assessment during teacher induction. monitoring, support, assessment and guidance procedures in place are fair and appropriate. Appropriate bodies also provide data to the Teaching Regulation Agency to record the progress of persons who start, and complete, induction.

Some of my ECTs are registered with a local authority appropriate body (AB) and won’t have finished their induction by September 2024. What should I do?

You should request that your local authority AB transfers these ECTs across to Teach West London.
